Botswana Shines at Paris 2024 Olympics!

The Olympics always bring the world together, and the 2024 games in France, which concluded on August 11th, were no exception.
This time, Botswana’s track and field athletes exceeded all expectations, bringing immense pride to their home country!

On August 10th, in the men’s 4x400m relay, they achieved an incredible feat:

Time: 2:54.53 – Silver Medal🥈!

They were just 0.1 seconds behind the USA, which was oh-so-close, but they set a new African record with their time.

The relay team is young and talented, with Bayapo Ndori, the oldest at just 25, Busang Kebinatshipi, 20, Anthony Pesela, 22, and the standout anchor, 21-year-old Letsile Tebogo!!

Tebogo finished 6th in the men’s 100m final, but on August 8th, in the 200m final, he shattered his personal best with a time of

but also made him the first-ever Olympic gold medalist from Botswana, setting a new African record in the process.

It’s worth noting that Tebogo faced a heartbreaking loss just three months before the event, when he lost his mother.

“I took about a month without doing anything. It wasn’t really clicking for me that she’s really gone. For me, I have to find the reason why I started my athletics journey and why I should continue going on” Tebogo said in an interview with Reuters.

But he chose to keep running.

During the race, he wore Nike sneakers with his mother’s initials and birthdate inscribed on them, a powerful tribute to her love💖.
